Farewell to The Yoga Center on Nov. 1, 2009

This Sunday Nov. 1, 2009 will be a sad day as The Yoga Center will no longer open its doors to its students.
It is sad to see this wonderful place go and I hope the students and teachers will find ways to stay in touch and continue practicing Yoga together.
It is sad to dissolve a wonderful Yoga community like this.
Although I only taught a few classes, I'm grateful for the opportunity to work here, both as a teacher as well as a receptionist.
As some doors close, new doors open. My classes will now be held Thursday mornings at the Hester Wagner Hall in Melbourne Village (10.15 am) and Wednesday and Saturday mornings at The Zen Room, a wonderful space full of light and energy, located in Cocoa Village (9.30am / 11.30am).
I'm still in the pursuit of a location for my evening classes. If you know of a room, library, school, community center, please let me know at yogawithandre@gmail.com.
Namaste!

A quote on Yoga and humor

"Humor helps people move from fragmentation to wholeness... It lightens the mind and makes it easier to guide and focus. A stable mind is like the hub of a wheel. The world may spin around you, but the mind is steady."

- B. K. S. Iyengar, Light on Life. The Yoga Journey to Wholeness, Inner Peace and Ultimate Freedom. (2005)

Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training completed

I recently had the opportunity to attend a course specifically designed to learn how to teach the benefits of Yoga to expectant mothers. The course was organized by Discovery Yoga (a Kripalu affiliate) in St. Augustine, FL, and led by Joanna Vajda, RN and long time Yoga Instructor.

During the 3-day weekend, we learned about the different stages of pregnancy, the process of labor and giving birth and a variety of Yoga postures that can help alleviate the body during pregnancy.

We learned how Yoga and gentle breathing exercises can help the mother connect more intimately with the new being growing inside her; we also explored how meditation and visualization can help reduce the fears and anxieties of pregnancy and labor.

As their bodies change, expectant mothers can benefit from the age-old practice of Yoga through deep breathing, gentle stretching and relaxation, keeping in mind our role as human goddesses that posses the unique gift of creating life.

Namasté to all the mothers of the world!
